The CommIT Project
Matt Hutchinson, 09/11/2007 - 15:10
The CommIT Project offers three different projects within the Blackpool community. If you would like any more information on any of our projects, please call us on 01524 592266.
Basic IT Skills Workshops
Weekly workshops are run by our student volunteers and are based entirely around the needs of the learners. Session content is flexible, but has the primary outcomes of increased confidence and improved IT skills.
Many of our students undertake a CV Writing Course and as such we can focus on CV writing skills to help boost participant’s confidence and assist them in developing the skills necessary for getting back into the work place. The sessions, where internet access is available, could also be focused on effective use of the internet, for example using search engines, online job applications and gathering information.
If you have ideas of what you would like a course to consist of, please get in touch and we can discuss your requirements.
It is also possible where facilities permit, to run one-day sessions in school holidays, to reach those who would be unable to attend the sessions on a weekly basis. In this situation, the project will also provide activities for the children of participants.
Video and Multimedia Project
Our Video and Multimedia Project seeks to introduce young people in the community to filming and video editing by creating a video diary style film. They work in small groups with the support of our student volunteers.
The project incorporates theory sessions as well as hands on filming and editing sessions to further develop participants’ skills and confidence. The project is undertaken in and around Blackpool, involving filming in the places that the young people are most comfortable.
This project is full to capacity for this academic year but if you would be interested in this type of project for next year please feel free to get in touch with us and we can discuss the possibilities.
ICT Strategy Development
Specialist student volunteers undertaking a Post-Graduate course entitled “IT Management and Organisational Change” deliver this project supported by full time project staff and with the support of their department’s academic staff. They work with local organisations to develop IT needs and strategies.
Possible projects could involve the updating, development and implementation of an IT strategy or the design and creation of a website or database. Get in touch with us to discuss your ideas.
The students will liaise with your organisation to establish what area you would like them to work on and will then plan, develop and implement an IT strategy or solution tailored specifically to your needs. This project is a perfect chance to undertake that IT project that you have never quite had time for.
