CommIT Volunteer Case Study

Andrew Clarey is a second year Biological Sciences student who spent his spare time in the 2006-7 year volunteering on the CommIT Project.  He has led a range of IT workshops in Blackpool and Lancaster, and coordinated the IT component of the one-day CommIT event at the end of the year.

“My time as a volunteer in LUVU has been amazing.  I really didn’t think that I could fit quite so many life experiences into one year!  LUVU has given me so many opportunities to use my talents and skills.

There are few times at university when you get the chance to go away on courses and help people improve things like their basic IT skills.  It can be exhilarating when you see people for only 4 hours and in that time you help them to use a computer and write their first CV.

It has been so much fun working with the staff and other volunteers on all the projects and I have been lucky to lead projects and help organise large single day events, all of which has helped make me into the person I am today!

LUVU has really helped me develop as a person, taught me a great deal and has been great fun from beginning to end.  I can’t wait for more next year!!!”
